Well, if you are one of those people who tend to be a bit rougher with yoursmartphone, you will be glad of the upcoming innovation. According to RBC Analyst Doug Freedman who commented on his recent trip to meet with some suppliers in Asia:
Samsung handset road-map: Samsung display will be ready to ship unbreakable plastic substrate screen by 2q end, with bendable in 2h13. Galaxy 4 likely ships a month early if carriers want it at end of March, semis to support will start mid-Feb. All products best in class, including AC, WiFi, NFC and applications processor.
The new screen could debut as early as Apri 2013 on the Galaxy S IV, but for now, Samsung has made no comment. Samsung has long been favoring technology that lends itself to plastic screens, because it has been developing OLED (organic light emitting diode) displays. One interesting feature with this technology, is that it allows for plastic to replace the glass substrate.
Whats more, this same technology could also lend itself for flexible displays as well.
For one thing 2013 could see some major innovations in Smartphone technology. There is so much money being invested, and such high competition, that companies who fail to innovate could find themselves losing out to the competition.
