Xperia Z1 Compact kernel source files outed by Sony

Sony has been on a kernel releasing rampage as of late. When T-Mobile’s Xperia Z1s hit stores last week, its kernel source was made public the same day it went on sale. It looks like the Japanese company is following the same trend with the Xperia Z1 Compact. The device was just outed by Sony, and its kernel source was released shortly after.

So why all the fuss behind releasing the source kernel for a phone? By having access to said kernels, developers are able to create better custom ROMs for smartphones.
Sure, the Z1 Compact has already been rooted, and Clockwork Recovery Mod works just fine on the device. However, having access to the source files will allow hacktastic developers to make even better ROMs for the devices.
Sony isn’t the only Android phone manufacturer to be friendlier towards the modding community; Oppo has worked closely with CyanogenMod in releasing a custom version of their N1 smartphone.
Does Sony’s proactive approach to being open with their devices make you more inclined to buy one?
