The developer’s behind Witcher 3 have revealed that they
have no plans to try and make the game available on the recently made
past gen consoles PS3 and Xbox 360, in favor of keeping the titles
exclusive to the PC and the newest systems Xbox One and PS4.
While fans who played the second game on 360 without an
xbox one yet may be sad to hear this, it’s not too surprising
considering the first game in the series is still PC only, and the
second title only got a console port a year after it’s original release.
Porting a game takes more resources than most people think, and some
game’s simply shouldn’t be ported solely for the sake of reaching a
larger audience, especially when such a move can lead to a diminished
product. In an interview with Connected Digital World, Witcher 3’s story
writer Jakub Szamalek had this to say:
“Well we are afraid that the game we are creating is just too huge,
too detailed to put on the current generation consoles. We didn’t want
to compromise the quality of the game to get the size we wanted. This is
why we are really excited that our work with “The Witcher 3” coincided
with this new generation because we can finally create a world which is
the size we wanted to be with the level of detail and care put into “The
Witcher 2.” So the world of “The Witcher 3” will be much bigger but it
will be just as beautiful and as carefully crafted as “The Witcher 2.”What it comes down to is that the company just doesn’t want to sacrifice any aspect of the game to reach a larger market, and instead wants anyone who purchases a version of The Witcher 3 to enjoy the full version of the game regardless of platform, and I for one will take a dev who puts quality and that kind of love into their work any day over someone looking for an easy cash grab. While it’s still somewhat surprising to hear that the game is already planned to be out for more than just PC, PS4 and Xbox One owners can look forward to a console version to play as well.
