Samsung has a fancy new Android GamePad on the way, and you might spot it first in a special Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 package. The Game Edition Bundle will include the WiFi tablet, controller, an HDMI adapter, and three games.
So how much will this new bundle cost? Samsung hasn’t revealed pricing for it yet, but it’s easy enough to add up the included items and make an educated guess. The Samsung GamePad is expected to sell for around $80 on its own. A first party HDMI adapter runs another $40. The 16GB version of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 sells for $249.
The total street price of the bundled goods, then, would be right around $369. It’s hard to imagine this being a hot seller with that kind of sticker price, but Samsung will discount the Game Edition Bundle somewhat.
Even if they drop the price $20, it’s still a bit steep when you consider that you’re getting a dual-core tablet that struggles with some of Google Play’s more intense games. Normally gaming performance isn’t a huge knock against an Android tablet, but when you’re buying a Game Edition Bundle it’s pretty clear that you anticipate using your new Tab to do a lot of gaming.
If that’s the case, you might be better off picking up a Nexus 7and buying the Samsung GamePad as an add-on.
Samsung’s said before that it will hold devices 4 to 6.3 inches wide and it should be compatible with anything that runs Jellybean or better, so there’s no need to lock yourself in to the Game Edition Bundle just because you like the controller.
