Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 concepts based on company's design patent

Just a few days ago, after the calendar flipped over to 2014, Samsung resubmitted a design patent that originally saw the light of day in August. Once thought to be the design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, that was ruled out when Sammy released the third iteration of its phablet. So when the Korean OEM once again sent the application into the USPTO, we put on our thinking caps and came up with the idea that the images might be showing us an advance look at the Samsung Galaxy S5, and by extension, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Ivo Maric took the design on the patent applications and whipped up a Samsung Galaxy S5 concept based on the patent that was awarded to Samsung on New Year's Eve. Just like the sketches, Maric's phone includes a curved display on each side of the device. Jermain Smit took a different tact. He used the drawings from the design patent to come up with a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which also features the curved display.

Concept models are just that, a concept designed by a third party based on information gleaned from leaked images and specs or based on nothing more than the designer's own imagination. You can check out what Maric and Smit came up with by clicking on the slideshow below.
